STRENGTHENING DEVELOPMENT: UPPER WEST REGIONAL MINISTER ENGAGES TRADITIONAL AUTHORITIES IN NADOWLI/KALEO DISTRICT

In a significant move aimed at fostering grassroots development, the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq., recently undertook a courtesy visit to four paramountcies in the Nadowli/Kaleo District. The visit, which included Charekpong, Nadowli, Takpo, and Sankana, allowed the Minister to engage with local chiefs and elders on vital issues surrounding peace, security, and development.
Accompanied by prominent figures including Council of State Member His Excellency Mr. Michael Kwame Mumuni and NDC Upper West Regional Chairman Abdul-Nasir Saani, the Minister listened attentively to the pressing challenges faced by the communities. A primary concern raised was the dilapidated road networks, which continue to hinder transportation, trade, and access to essential social services, especially during the rainy season.
In response, Minister Puozuing reassured the chiefs that the government’s Big Push infrastructure project will prioritize the rehabilitation and construction of major roads across the Upper West Region. Additionally, he announced the deployment of DRIP machines by the District Assembly for regular maintenance of feeder and access roads, thereby ensuring motorable conditions for all communities.
Moreover, traditional leaders highlighted the need for reliable electricity supply and called for the upgrading of healthcare facilities to enhance service delivery, including better infrastructure and adequate health personnel. The chiefs also emphasized the importance of modernizing agriculture through improved irrigation, machinery, and extension services.
In another exciting development, the Regional Minister announced plans for the establishment of two 24-hour economy markets within the district. One market will be situated in Nadowli under the government’s initiative, while the second will be constructed in Sankana, courtesy of Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin. These markets are geared towards boosting local commerce and creating job opportunities, ultimately stimulating economic activities within the district.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Mary Haruna, assured the chiefs of a collaborative approach to the market projects, ensuring they are optimally located to benefit the community. The Paramount Chief of Sankana, Naa Pagraninge Saakoe Mornah III, praised the government’s initiative, underscoring the importance of peace and unity in realizing the potential benefits of these developments.
Residents and traditional leaders have expressed immense gratitude to both the central government and the Speaker of Parliament for prioritizing the Nadowli/Kaleo District. It is a clear indication of the government’s commitment to inclusive development, as it seeks to foster stronger partnerships with traditional authorities for the benefit of the communities.
This engagement reinforces the need for continued collaboration and dialogue between government and traditional leaders as they work together towards a prosperous and sustainable future for the Upper West Region.
