The Upper West region is run by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC). The Regional Coordination Council (RCC) is headed by the Regional Minister, Hon. Hafiz Bin Salih, who is the political head and his deputy as well as representatives of the Regional House of Chiefs, the Municipal/District Chief Executives of the region, the Presiding Members of the Municipal/Districts Assemblies and representatives of the various decentralized Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the region.

The head of Administration in the region is the Chief Director, Gilbert B. Nuuri-Teg who provides technical and administrative support to the RCC, departments, Agencies and Institutions.

Each district is run by a District Assembly.
