Empowering Nanvilli: A New Dawn with Sustainable Water Access

On November 25, 2025, the Nanvilli community in the Nadowli-Kaleo District celebrated a momentous occasion with the commissioning of vital water facilities under the Resilience against Climate Change (REACH) Project. Addressing attendees on behalf of the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq., Chief Director Hajia Pognaa Fati Issaka Koray emphasized the significance of this milestone for the community and the Upper West Region.

In a spirited ceremony, five dams, five irrigation facilities, and sixty mechanized boreholes were inaugurated, marking a transformative step towards ensuring reliable access to clean water. The initiative, spearheaded by ActionAid Ghana with funding from GIZ and the European Union, aims to enhance community resilience against climate change while addressing economic vulnerabilities.

“Water is life,” stated Hajia Koray, highlighting the critical role of access to clean water for health, agriculture, and sustainable livelihoods. She urged the residents of Nanvilli to take ownership of the facilities and establish strong management systems to protect and maintain these crucial resources.

Expressing gratitude for the cooperation during the project’s implementation, she assured the community that this investment would provide relief, dignity, and unlock new opportunities, particularly for women burdened by the search for water.

As the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council continues its commitment to expanding essential infrastructure, today’s commissioning represents a significant investment in the health and future of Nanvilli and its residents.

May this initiative bring improved health, strengthened livelihoods, and unity to the people of Nanvilli.
