The Upper West region is governed by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), presided over by the Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq, who serves as the political authority. The RCC is comprised of representatives from the Regional House of Chiefs, the Municipal/District Chief Executives, the Presiding Members of the Municipal/District Assemblies, and delegates from various decentralized Ministries, Departments, and Agencies within the region.

The head of Administration in the region is the Chief Director, Pognaa Fati Issaka Koray who provides technical and administrative support to the RCC, departments, Agencies and Institutions.

Each district is run by a District Assembly.
