In a commendable display of commitment to regional development, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq., the Upper West Regional Minister, recently convened an important dialogue with the paramount chiefs of the Sissala East Municipality. This engagement reflects the government’s recognition of the vital role traditional authorities play in fostering community growth and addressing local priorities.
The meeting served a dual purpose: to express appreciation for the chiefs’ steadfast support during the 2024 general elections and to engage in constructive discussions about the pressing developmental needs characterizing the region. Representing the Wellebelle, Bawiesibelle, Banu, and Tumu Traditional Councils, the chiefs articulated a comprehensive agenda addressing various challenges confronting their communities.
Among the most urgent demands highlighted were the need for significant improvements in infrastructure, specifically better road networks, reliable access to water and electricity, and enhanced educational facilities. The chiefs also called for the construction of a steel bridge over the Duu River and the establishment of an agricultural mechanization center to bolster local farming activities. Further amplifying their concerns was a proposal for the formation of a new district, which they deemed critical following Sissala East’s recent elevation to municipal status. They also raised alarm over the declining prices of agricultural products, which have adversely affected local farmers.
Minister Puozuing listened intently to these grievances and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing them within a comprehensive and inclusive development framework. His assurances that local needs resonate with national objectives underscore a governance approach that prioritizes responsive action aimed at sustainable growth.
This engagement reaffirms the strong collaboration between the government and traditional leaders, setting the stage for joint efforts that promise to significantly uplift the Sissala East community. As we anticipate tangible outcomes from these discussions, it is imperative for all stakeholders—government officials, traditional authorities, and community members—to remain united in their pursuit of progress. True development transcends mere promises; it necessitates actionable commitments and continuous cooperation. Together, we possess the potential to transform aspirations into meaningful achievements, thereby securing a brighter future for the people of Sissala East.
