Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana pays a courtesy call on the Upper West Regional Minister
The Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, H. E Vice Admiral Ibok-Ekwe Ibas (Rtd) called on the Upper West Regional Minister Dr Hafiz Bin Salih in his office to discuss matters that are purposed to strengthening the relationship between Nigerians living in the Upper West Region and the Regional Coordinating Council and to also offer him the opportunity to interact with the Nigerians living in the region.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih in welcoming the High Commissioner, expressed his happiness about the visit of the High Commissioner most especially being the first time a Nigerian High Commissioner has visited the Region since his appointment. He said that the Upper West Region has a good number of Nigerian citizens, some students, and others traders doing businesses in the region. He added that the Nigerians are well integrated into the Upper West Region to the extent that some are married to the people of Upper West Region. He added that, the Nigerians living in the region are well behaved people and do not have issues with the people of Upper West and the security agencies.
He added that, the Upper West Region is one of the most peaceful regions in Ghana and that the region was very peaceful and safe. He noted that, the only threat was the recent terrorists attacks in the neighborhood countries Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast and that, security measures have been kept in place to protect the people of the Region from any terrorist attack.

Green Ghana Day in the Upper West Region

Green Ghana Day in the Upper West Region in fulfilment of the nationwide drive to plant 20 million trees. The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih together with the Regional Security Council and some heads of departments planted seedlings along the Wa Model School street and the Wa plantation behind GRA office.

On Thursday 2nd June 2022, the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih together with members of the Regional Security Council, paid a courtesy call on , His Eminence Cardinal Richard Kuuia Baawobr at his residence to congratulate him on his elevation to the position of a Cardinal of the Catholic Church by the Pope.
The Minister wished him well in his new position and pledged the support of the Region for him to succeed.
His Eminence Richard Kuuia Baawobr is the third Cardinal in Ghana after Cardinal Dery and Appiah Turkson. He was named as part of 21 new Cardinals around the world announced by Pope Francis on Sunday (May 29, 2022).
The College of Cardinals currently consists of 208 Cardinals, of whom 117 are electors and 91 non-electors. As of 27 August, the number will grow to 229 Cardinals, of whom 131 will be electors.
Eight of the newly named Cardinals are from Europe, six from Asia, two from Africa, one from North America, and four from Central and Latin America.

The Regional Security Council Members on the directive of the Upper West Regional Minister Hon. Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, visited all victims of the Wa land dispute shooting incident including the deceased families to sympathize with them and to assure them that justice will be served. The Minister is currently attending a cabinet retreat in Accra and could not join the delegation. Consequently, he directed the Regional Security Council to immediately visit all the victims to see how they are doing and assure them of justice on the matter.
On the early hours of Thursday, 17th March 2022, there was a land dispute in a suburb of Wa leading to gun shots where five innocent people were shot leaving two dead and three others injured. The injured were receiving treatment at the Municipal Hospital in Wa but have now been discharged.
The suspect who did the shooting has since been arrested by the Upper West Regional Police Command and investigation has commenced. The suspect was arraigned before court and remandered into police custody. The CID Headquarters has taken over the case and has assured the general public that justice would be served and that all persons found culpable would be brought to book to face the law.
Speaking to affected victims of the incident on Sunday morning, Lt. Col. Francis Kwasi Gyemah called on the deceased families and other victims on behalf of the Regional Minister to remain calm and assured them that justice would be served. He noted that, the Upper West Regional Minister has not been sleeping on the matter since Thursday and that anyone found taking the law into his hands would face the law accordingly. He added that the Minister as chairman of REGSEC was so passionate about the matter and would ensure that culprits of the incident would not go unpunished.
The five victims include, Mr Stephen L. Mane a retired lecturer at Dr. Hilla Liman Technical University who is deceased, Mr. Alhassan Iddrissu a staff of UBIDS who is also deceased, Umar Amin, Haruna Umar and Hamza Erasung Hammad a student of UBIDS..
