UPPER WEST REGION TAKES BOLD STEP TOWARD ORDERLY DEVELOPMENT AS DISTRICT SPATIAL PLANNING COMMITTEES INAUGURATED

The Upper West Regional Coordinating Council has reaffirmed its commitment to planned and sustainable development, as the Regional Spatial Planning Committee met and inaugurated the District Spatial Planning Committees at the RCC Conference Hall, Wa, on Thursday, 4th June, 2026.
The welcome address of Regional Minister Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq. was delivered on his behalf by the Acting Chief Director of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council, Hajia Pognaa Fati Issaka Koray, who urged all Municipal and District Chief Executives to treat spatial planning as an urgent governance priority.
The Minister’s address called for strict compliance with the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016 (Act 925), and directed MMDAs to thoroughly study and implement the revised zoning guidelines, planning standards, and spatial plan preparation manual presented at the meeting.
With the region experiencing growing demands for housing, infrastructure, and public services, the Minister stressed that all development decisions must be anchored in approved plans and established regulations.
The meeting brought together Municipal and District Chief Executives, the Regional Director of the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA), and Heads of Departments and Agencies.
