The Upper West Regional Coordinating Council joined the nation on Friday, 6th June 2026, to commemorate the 2026 Tree for Life Restoration Initiative with a tree planting exercise at the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), Wa — coinciding with World Environment Day, themed on climate change.
A speech by Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq., Upper West Regional Minister, was delivered on his behalf by Hajia Pognaa Fati Issaka Koray, Acting Chief Director of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council.
“For us in the Upper West Region, tree planting is not simply an environmental activity — it is an investment in our survival, our economy, and the future generation yet unborn.”
— Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq., Upper West Regional Minister
Under this year’s programme, the region is tasked to plant 50,000 seedlings for amenity purposes, distribute 30,000 seedlings through the Trees on Farms initiative, and restore 100 hectares of degraded forest land via the Youth Forest Champions programme.
The Minister urged all residents, institutions, and communities to not only plant trees but nurture them to maturity, while calling on the youth to become frontline ambassadors for environmental protection across the region.
